Acai Berry - The Process

Acai Berries cannot be purchased in North America as they are highly perishable and start  to lose their nutritional value 24 hours after being picked. The only way North American consumers can enjoy the great taste and remarkable benefits of this superfruit is by purchasing our Nova Acai Brand juice or Frozen Pulp Smoothie Mix.

Our Nova Acai brand juice and smoothie mix is made with pure unfiltered, unadulterated acai berry pulp as the primary functional ingredient. Nova Acai is currently available in 250ml Tetrapak and no refrigeration is required. Our Smoothies mixes are available in 4 X 100g packages and must remain frozen until ready for use.

Our manufacturers operate the  newest state of the art processing facilities in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest where this fantastic fruit grows in its wild and natural abundance. Native co-op farmers hand pick the fruit during the harvesting season which runs from July to December.

Our processing and bottling facilities are HACCP certified by the AIB which ensures that our customers are getting the  highest quality and of course, the best tasting Acai products on the market.

The pulp is extracted from the small round fruit which is deep purple in colour. The fruit is only 20% pulp and 80% pit. To produce this dense purple liquid of incomparable flavor, only the pulp and its skin is processed.

The Acai palm is very ornamental, with multiple branches which can reach up to 25 meters in height. The fruit is born in bunches of 3 to 8. Traditionally, acai berries are picked by hand and the tribesmen would shimmy up the tree and cut the branches from the top. The berries are loaded into baskets and onto boats soon after picking. They would have to transport the acai berries overnight to get them to the markets in Belem. The city of Belem, Brazil now employs over 30,000 people on a daily basis to keep up with its enormous demand.
